UCF Knights Charge On For Their Mission: JA in a Day

The University of Central Florida (UCF) Athletics Department has been involved with Junior Achievement of Central Florida for two years. Assistant Athletics Director Keith Embray put together the program to help UCF athletes get involved in the community while fostering their public speaking skills.

A UCF athlete wanted to "help inspire" children and show them that anything is possible. "Are you smarter than a fifth grader? We will find out today!" joked a UCF Knight. The 21 UCF athletes worked through their nerves and empowered the 3rd - 5th graders at a JA in a Day event at Hidden Oaks Elementary School. Participation was almost double that of last year. At this rate, UCF Athletes will be able to take over the whole school in the years to come! The volunteers shared the excitement of seeing the children's eyes light up as they talked about college, sports, and even shared innovative ideas of products the students wanted to create.

Opportunities like JA in a Day not only impact children's lives but can empower volunteers like the UCF Knights to build a stronger community. You can watch some brief interviews with the volunteers here.
